A brief overview of KTM's History..

Now, let us take a moment to appreciate the rich history of KTM motorcycles. KTM, an Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, has a storied history in motorcycle racing. Founded in 1934 by Hans Trunkenpolz, KTM started as a repair shop and dealership for DKW motorcycles and Opel cars. The company began mass production of its first motorcycle, the R100, in 1953.

KTM made its official racing debut in 1954 and secured their first title in the Austrian 125cc national championship of that year. They made an appearance at the 1956 International Six Days Trials (ISDT), the world’s oldest off-road motorcycle event sanctioned by the FIM, and took home a gold medal with Egon Dornauer riding a KTM motorcycle to victory.

Despite facing financial difficulties in the 1980s, KTM has risen from bankruptcy with high-quality products that are known for their reliability and performance on both road and off-road surfaces alike. Today, KTM continues to uphold its legacy of innovation and racing success.

In recent years, KTM has made a significant impact in the MotoGP World Championship. In September 2014, Pit Beirer announced that KTM were to start in MotoGP for 2017. A year and a half before their MotoGP debut, KTM tested their V4 engine for the first time. In October 2015, the KTM RC16 was track-tested on for the first time at the Red Bull Ring with Alex Hofmann as the first test rider on the bike.

KTM demonstrated their prowess in doing things their own way by winning their first Moto GP premier class race on August 9, 2020, with rookie Brad Binder crossing the finish line in first place.

The latest model of KTM’s MotoGP bike is a testament to KTM’s commitment to innovation and performance in the world of motorcycle racing. Browse our catalogue today and find the best deals on aftermarket parts for KTM motorcycles here at Reactive Parts!
